Manchester United: Lisandro Martinez to undergo surgery again

Manchester United has faced another setback as it’s been confirmed that center-back Lisandro Martinez to undergo surgery for a foot injury for the second time.

Martinez initially fractured his metatarsal during April’s UEFA Europa League quarter-final against Sevilla, but he returned after surgery for pre-season.

The Argentinian World Cup winner played in United’s first four Premier League matches but suffered a recurrence of the injury against Arsenal last month.

Head coach Erik ten Hag shared the news in a press conference before Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League group match against Galatasaray, expressing his disappointment and sympathy for Martinez.

Ten Hag emphasized Martinez’s resilience and character, expressing confidence that he will bounce back.

With multiple players already sidelined due to injuries or illnesses this season, including defenders Luke Shaw, Sergio Reguilon, Tyrell Malacia, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, the team faces challenges, prompting Ten Hag to stress the importance of collective effort in overcoming these setbacks.

Lisandro Martínez, born on January 18, 1998, is an Argentine professional footballer renowned for his skills as a center-back. He currently plays for Manchester United in the Premier League and represents the Argentina national team.

Martínez is recognized for his exceptional ball control, physical strength, and aggressive tackling abilities.

His career commenced at Newell’s Old Boys and later saw him joining Defensa y Justicia in 2017, initially on loan. In 2019, he moved to Ajax, where he made a significant impact, featuring in 120 matches over three seasons and securing two Eredivisie titles and one KNVB Cup.
